YouTube is working hard to combat the growing issue of AI deepfakes.
The company just rolled out a new system to curb the issue that entails detection processes. This will ensure creators and publishers are notified when and if their face or voice is used for specific clips.
While the matter of impersonation and deepfakes is nothing new, they are increasing at an exponential rate. Different artists and politicians keep getting targeted and the posts are getting viral.
Hence, YouTube wants to bring an end to this issue to stop the misrepresentation of others and keep misinformation at bay.
For starters, YouTube has designed an innovative singing ID technology. Any voice that simulates a singer’s tone would be detected automatically through this system.
The technology makes use of audio matches which highlight what is fake and what is a copy. This ensures both artists and publishers can prevent false impersonation of their hard work and creativity.
Remember, the music industry keeps getting targeted by AI deepakes and many are tired of seeing copyrights violated in various instances. They aren’t compensated and they don’t know how to report and who to report the matter to.
On the other hand, the app is also working on a new tool that detects and manages AI content that shows people’s real faces.
This will give talent agents and celebs similar tools so music publishers can benefit and take action against anyone going above the law. The same would be the case for politicians and those in power for an efficient crackdown.
Both of these new tools will be a part of the company’s tools for copyright protection that are in effect today.
As creators on YouTube know, copystrikes are becoming very restrictive in nature. This provides rights holders more space to attend to clients’ likenesses and provides YouTube with a better reputation in the industry.
Meanwhile, the app is also looking at more options to generate control over how content will be used by external parties. This entails AI developers getting more permissions. Not a lot of details were revealed here but YouTube hopes to provide it soon for all to benefit.
All of these measures are proof that the platform is working hard to ensure the app remains safe and free from AI deepfakes which was much needed.
