X has taken a major step to remove its account-blocking feature on the app. This includes deleting the block option for posts in several places.
This means that if accounts are public then their content would be visible to all users, including those that were once blocked. Furthermore, app researcher Nima Owji mentioned how getting rid of the X feature from posts means that users can still block users from their respective profiles.
In case accounts are blocked, blocked users will still get access to viewing their content. So the only way through which you can prevent this from happening is when you change the setting for publishing posts to private or followers only. This restricts viewership for all.
The logic over here is simple. Whether you are blocked or not, you can still view any public posts in any way, shape, or form. This is possible when logging in through a different account or using the incognito viewing option. Hence, the value of blocking is little to none.
Experts argued that blocking does mean they can no longer view your feed’s updates. That certainly holds a lot of importance when you want to get rid of a problematic individual. So many of those who were subjected to harassment find this feature super useful. Yes, they can view public updates but it’s not as readily accessible as a regular feature. And this limiting factor is what separates others from the rest.
This is why both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store require blocking options and does seem like X’s attempts to water down and scale back on things like blocking could turn into a violation of the parameters.
Tech billionaire Elon Musk says blocking is frowned upon due to its negative nature, especially block lists. He thinks this restricts the reach of users’ content including his own profile on the platform. Similarly, they also play with recommendations.
Musk says a lot of deserving people on the platform deserve more credit for their posts but due to blocking, they never get the credit they deserve in terms of good visibility. Hence, we can see how this can really prove to be great for creators looking to make a name through the X app.
For now, seeing how this decision comes into play and what feedback it receives will take time as not a lot of details were made clear. Therefore, we will just have to wait and watch for now.

High time this happened.

The block function will block that account from engaging with, but not block seeing, public post.
