iPhone 16 is gearing up to be launched next week. Many are excited to see what Apple has to offer this time around but have you ever wondered what it is that makes people buy the iPhone?
Interestingly, new iPhone purchases aren’t restricted to new features. In fact, it’s far from that. To get a better understanding of this front, we dug down deep to figure out what it is that has users coming back for more upgrades.
Thanks to CIRP’s new study, user feedback shows that it’s not new features that force people to make new iPhone purchases. This was related to a survey carried out between 2023 and 2024 and the results are in.
The survey features respondents sharing open-ended answers and then the study sorts data into several categories. This has to do with old phones getting obsolete, previous devices incapable of use, the need for new features, financial incentives from carriers, better quality, the need for 5G upgrades, and also close contacts having the latest models.
The study gave out some highlights about what they meant when old phones were obsolete and what it meant when an old device was not performing well. Anything counted as new features also included those with good phone usage but desire for better features like camera features.
You’ll be amazed to learn that 44% selected their reason for a new iPhone as devices become obsolete. Interestingly, the second most common reason was a device getting lost, stolen, or broken. 29% voted in favor of that category.
Under one-fifth of those who replied claimed new features were the sole reason to spend more funds on the latest iPhone model. And in the end, 9% spoke about their close circle having the new iPhone which prompted them to make a purchase as well.
So as you can see, it’s not the urgency or desire to get your hands on the latest phone for better features. Inflation is still present and job insecurity remains high. Unless someone else is paying for it, consumers are being more cautious with smartphone purchases and prefer making a good investment that lasts years.
We’re not sure if Apple would like to hear that. What are your thoughts? We’d love to know where you stand here.
