A new month means the time has arrived to keep a check on popular social media apps and their revenue earnings of the past.
We’re discussing X today and how the company’s revenue could be impacted after Brazil’s high court has suspended the app in the country. The news comes after a senior judge ended the months-long feud with tech billionaire Elon Musk with this decision.
In case you did not know, the userbase for X in Brazil is huge and now that it’s banned, it’s going to be interesting to see the impact it has after one of Android’s biggest download drivers is removed.
Thanks to insights provided by App Intelligence, X went above and beyond many people’s expectations for August. It hit a new milestone in revenue, where net revenue stood at $10.8 million. And for the record, this is what Musk keeps after both Google and Apple keep their shares.
The figure is massive and certainly a massive rise from the 21% seen in July. That was X’s former high watermark and the first time revenue grew since the start of 2024. Most of the new revenue arose from the App Store and Google Play also showed promising results despite a small decline in figures when compared to the previous month.
As far as download trends are concerned, X isn’t following any certain pattern for installations and revenue generation. It’s turned into this massive political force for many that takes into consideration the value it offers to others. So that is what makes predicting more about the future so much more difficult.
Now, it’s going to be harder to make predictions about what will take place next. From what we can understand, the future is not certain. X is following a trend that’s common with many other platforms where revenue might grow but downloads keep falling.
So where does Brazil stand here? The report took into consideration what impact it could have on X’s revenue since it’s no longer available for users in the giant South American nation. Remember, just to give you an idea, the app was so popular in the country that estimates showed downloads to hit 5.4 million in 2024 alone. The year isn’t even over yet but still this is huge!
However, while X did make its way into Brazilians’ devices in the millions count, it failed in terms of opening up pockets. As per App Intelligence statistics, X was able to go a little over 141K in terms of net revenue. This came from Apple and Google Play Stores last month. It accounts for a little more than 1% of the total revenue.
We have to mention that this was considered one of the best months in terms of revenue for Brazil when you look at X’s previous track records in the country. We are doubtful that Elon Musk would be noticed. What do you think?
