OpenAI Gears Up For New AI Model ‘Strawberry’ Release And Here’s What We Know So Far

While the world of tech is waiting for the latest variant of ChatGPT to roll out soon, there are more speculations about a new AI model from OpenAI called Strawberry.

The rumors speak about a possible launch this year in the Fall and some media reports are talking about how it could be much sooner, possibly the next two weeks!

The model is reported to be very different from what we’ve seen launch from the AI giant in the past and would be focusing more on replies based on reasoning. Right now, all the AI models are designed to generate quick responses based on text prompts. They give a more conversational tone and quicker response without any thinking.

This however takes around 10 to 20 seconds to actually sit down and think before blurting out the next best response. The delay is said to be intentional as it gives the AI system the chance to approach any questions in a more systematic matter. Hence, errors are reduced and it also enhances performance during complex tasks and those needing more logic or reasoning steps.

For now, the model appears like it’s curated to do great in domains like math equations, coding, and also assistance for everyday business tasks like outlining detailed marketing.

As per this new report, two individuals have already taken part in the model’s testing and shared how the Strawberry rollout will be combined into the ChatGPT platform but always present as a standalone option.

There are no more details on this front including how it would be included as there needs to be more clarity from the company. However, one possibility is linked to users selecting Strawberry from an entire list of AI models throughout the ChatGPT service.

At the same time, we’re also made aware of what limitations users can expect with this latest Strawberry rollout. This includes how the model will be limited to text-based replies only at the start. Hence, we cannot expect to see any multimodal capabilities as witnessed in the company’s other models.

Other OpenAI offerings include both text and images. Meanwhile, the timeframe for generating a reply is also said to be too long for some of the simplest queries. This is a major throw-off for users on the go who need assistance quickly.

No justification is possible for longer wait times and that would just add to its list of drawbacks. Also, the model is said to recall previous chats and give more personal responses but the feature has again shown inconsistency during the trial phase.

The pricing for the model is also said to differ from the current ChatGPT model in existence. The latter is being offered both for free and also with additional subscription-related tiers. As per this report, its pricing structure puts out limits on the figure of messages which users generate in a single hour.

There is also an option for high-priced tiers that give out faster reply times. Therefore, those who are paying for ChatGPT Plus can get early access to the Strawberry before it’s up for grabs to those who want it for free.

The launch of this new Strawberry could add fresh energy to the lineup of ChatGPT that would fill up any voids until the arrival of the much anticipated ChatGPT-5 model. For now. Google is not staying silent and hopes to also make big waves in the world of AI with its new Gemini.

It’s transforming the chatbot into its smart assistant that works as a default on the new Pixel 9 series of devices and slowly starts to combine Gemini deeper into the array of products.
