SEOClarity analyzed 1 million keywords and found that most of Google AI Overviews links are for informational intent. 96% of the AI Overviews Google shows are completely informational. Only 1.79% of the Google AI Overview links are informational/transactional in intent.
As per Mark Traphagen, "This means... Google is restricting AI Overviews to where they likely have the most utility for users [that is] summarizing information on informational questions."
The research found out about what Google AI Overviews intend and then broke down each link. It was found that 1.2% of the links are transactional, 0.4% are navigational and 0.07% of the Google AI Overviews links are informational/navigational in intent.
Another type of link also includes informational/navigational/transactional (0.01%). It was also found that no Google AI Overviews links are navigational/transactional or local/informational. SEOClarity determined intent of each link by looking for algorithms and tracking keywords on the first page to see what queries make Google see which intent. If we see organic results on Google, we can find that most of the articles there are informational. This kind of information is very important to know to plan content strategy and to know what users are interested in.
