There have always been surveys and reports on the impact of AI on jobs. A team of researchers from the University of Pennsylvania did an extensive research by having human annotators do thousands of tasks of different occupations based on their exposure to LLMs. The results of the research showed that even the most broad generative AI can perform most tasks of only 1.8% jobs around the world.
But the research also found that when it comes to IT related and software development jobs, AI would be able to perform more than 46% of tasks in the future. The findings of the research also revealed that AI is more likely to affect high paying jobs that require extensive years of training like lawyers and pharmacists. White collar workers are more at risk of losing their jobs because of AI.
Scientists, researchers and technologists put years of training into work but artificial intelligence can take it away from them. But it will still take years for AI to fully take away the jobs. The researchers say that there should be more talks about what implications AI adoption will bring to many jobs around the world. There should be policies about potential effects of AI and what should we do to reduce these effects in the labor market.
