Microsoft Tests New Feature for Edge That Warns Users About Slow Extensions

Microsoft is currently testing out a new and useful feature that’s related to the Edge Browser.

This will warn users when they install browsing extensions that slow down their system. Hence, it’s like an alert.

Remember, extensions are always deemed useful for many reasons. However, the drawbacks cannot be ignored. This includes making browsers slower or impacting the whole CPU cycle. As a result, it can be very time-consuming on the users’ end and pages load slower.

In some extreme examples, extensions hogging resources can make it all the more difficult for a browser crawler to halt. This is why the software giant thinks detectors for gauging extension performance are the way to go.

Extensions impacting the Edge performance will display messages such as ‘Clicking alerts will display more data about the extension. It will impact the loading speed too’- the company added. This will give users the option to display extensions there and then for optimal performance.

Each extension does require resources for running background checks. This does not mean Edge will bombard users with alerts about performance. This will only arise when Edge detects constant performance issues arising from extensions.

There might be warning messages that inform users about pages taking longer to load due to the extensions and disabling advice. However, experts do note that the impact could vary.

The new features are upcoming on the browser’s Canary version before it trickles down toward Edge Beta and then to a commercial version. In case you want to try this, you can install this version and press enable to restart Edge.

The software giant mentioned that some users of Canary 130 will attain the new feature in its early steps.

We can see how Edge is working hard to compete in the browser industry where Mozilla and Chrome continue to dominate. If you ask us about who is the best, it’s Mozilla in certain performance benchmarks. It also has very less features.

Hence this might be a good time for Microsoft Edge to step up to the plate and offer something that users are not only keen on using but also something that can assist them in more ways than one. What do you think?
