Mark Cuban is calling out Elon Musk for making X users fall for his freedom of speech tactic.
Cuban made it so clear that Musk’s ownership of the X app has led to a lot of users assuming incorrect beliefs. This was related to their rights to express anything and everything. What they don’t realize is that’s not true, he continued.
According to Cuban, it’s a gimmick that Musk uses to attract more users but only when you sign up, do you realize more about the false promises that the tech billionaire had made about the app.
Cuban has never been an advocate for X and his owner and he strongly feels the app is nowhere near the ideology of being free. In fact, he feels the opposite about the whole scenario.
The star from Shark Tank has never had friendly encounters with Musk and when media outlets asked him about their mutual feelings, he said there was no issue.
Now, Cuban is speaking more about how important free speech is for democracy, and with Twitter being the foundation of a digital town square where important issues are debated, it’s appalling that there is no free speech.
For so long, we’ve seen Elon Musk speak about how much he’s wanted to better Twitter and roll out new features that ensure its algorithms support free speech and more trust. Similarly, he wished to defeat spam and bots while ensuring all posts were made by humans.
Today, X is far from what Musk had promised, Cuban confirmed. It’s only as free as he likes it to be and that can be intimidating. The fact that Musk can alter the algorithm to better suit his preferences is shocking. He can suspend anyone and everyone when he would like to.
As per Cuban, one-day Musk decides he wants free speech, and the next day, he carries out suspensions over those he might not agree with. This is what he thinks is power abuse and nothing more.
Does that mean Cuban will stop using the X app? No, that’s not true. He likes debating with Musk and referred to it as playful conversations that keep going back and forth. But this is not the first that we’ve seen Cuban call out Musk and the X app.
Last month, he mentioned during another interview how Musk altered the app’s algorithm in a manner that he saw was right. He liked setting parameters and then manipulating them which is not like how other apps work.
The accusations did give out a reaction from Elon Musk who spoke on the matter a few days after this. He published a post through X about how the app is open source unlike what others might feel.
Musk was quick to justify his claims by adding a greater number of right-wing posts and accounts on the app were now visible to Cuban because that’s what he was interacting more with. He loves responding to many accounts and that’s how the algorithm works, Musk continued with typical name-calling.
