Google has confirmed its collaboration with Wayback Machine to give users a new and useful research option.
The tech giant mentioned the news in a statement where it explained how this would make things so much easier to discover and explore older content that may have been removed in the past.
The process will give users the chance to see archive versions of pages directly with Google Search so they can dig a deeper way into the website, depending on what was shared in the past.
As mentioned in a new statement by Wayback Machine, the latest feature can be accessed by carrying out searches on the leading search engine as before. Near every search result, there will be three dots, and pressing on them will bring out a new panel for results. You can press on the ‘More About This Page’ option to unveil a link to the Wayback Machine page for that certain website.
Through the link, users can also see previous versions of the page filled with content from Wayback Machine. This helps to uncover older versions of the page that are under the control of the Internet Archive.
It’s great to find old material like documents that isn’t easily found through classic search methods. Similarly, it can track any changes in terms of how brands have rolled out new elements such as older posts or tweets.
It’s also a new feature that Google users were looking for since the company got rid of cache links during this year’s start. As per the search engine giant, a lot of users in the research community have been complaining about data not being available. This is why they’re adding more links to this About page for quicker access and useful data.
We’ve seen the Internet Archive make headlines in the past for losing a legal battle against top publishers regarding old book archives. This was to make them accessible for free online. But the court ruled against the decision and called it a total violation of the Piracy Act.
Therefore, after going through some tough times, we can see how this new partnership with Google is a huge win for the company. It will broaden the user base and bring more people to the research archive.
