It’s certainly a major upbeat update from Meta who is behind the services of several leading social media apps like Facebook, Instagram, and of course WhatsApp. Now, adding the Llama AI model to the list seems to be a wonderful addition for additional success.
The news will certainly be loved by the company’s CEO who has always offered interesting strategies in terms of giving models open source with no strings attached. The decision is brave, experts believe, and one that finally seems to be paying the company back.
We have to remember that Meta does not have or consider AI as its core business. This is why Zuckerberg didn’t mind designing and training models and then offering it for free. Now, the impressive figures prove that his decision was always the right one to begin with.
Since the rollout of Llama 3 in April and then 3.1 shortly afterward, the company also reported downloads hitting the 20 million mark in the previous month. Moreover, the token volume across different cloud service providers also doubled in the past three months. Usage also rose by nearly 10 times in that period.
The model is doing a great job at various simple tasks and other more complex ones. This includes math, language translations, and general knowledge as a whole. There was also added support for different languages and there happens to be more coming soon.
Meta stated in its report that making its AI models open source meant giving more people access and diversifying the entire AI ecosystem where people get more choices than what was seen in the past. It also added that the innovation has so far been quick and widespread where startups keep pushing new barriers so businesses of all sizes can benefit through Llama.
Meta also expressed a lot of excitement for different companies embracing its models. It provided an entire list of tech giants including Zoom, Spotify, AT&T, DoorDash, and beyond.
