Google Launches New Accessibility Features For Visually Impaired Users

Google has just rolled out a new set of accessibility features for the visually impaired. The news comes alongside its launch of the latest Pixel 9 series.

The most talked about feature is updates to its Magnifier that was rolled out in 2023 so users can make the most of cameras by focusing more on the surroundings.

Today, it’s all about AI and how the app can assist users look for certain terms in the background. It’s like an upgrade for exploring certain features like flight times or your favorite dessert at a restaurant.


The new Magnifier will include picture-in-picture modes so that visual context remains when the option to enlarge the background is selected. Users can select between big lenses for finer details and wider lenses for bigger views. At the same time, users will make the most of Selfie Illumination by switching the selfie camera on so they can touch up their makeup.

Furthermore, a cool Guide Frame is offered with upgrades. It was first launched in 2022 and guides users to position selfies. Simply point cameras at yourself and allow the device to provide clear-cut instructions on angles before shots are taken.

New Guided Frame also entails enhanced object recognition and face filters for group pictures. Additionally, there is better focus when the settings get tricky. Google has made the Guided Frame more streamlined so all you need to do is go to the camera settings.

The fact that there is so much to offer is great news for users and that includes the latest foldable design. The company rolled out a dual-screen option that’s reminiscent of Pixel 9’s Pro Fold. it enables users to prop devices on flat surfaces for ideal views of content. This ensures everyone in the chat can follow along.

Meanwhile, Google is providing more support for languages in Live Caption. It now includes Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Russian, Polish, and Portuguese. In other news, Live Transcribe is also getting more support in the languages discussed above.
