Global Smartphones Shipment is Expected to Grow 5% in 2024 After Experiencing a Decline From Past 2 Years

Global Smartphone Shipment is expected to increase by 5% in Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia and Latin America because of improving economic situations in these regions. As many smartphone companies are adding GenAI in their smartphones, it is going to increase the shipment of smartphones even after 2024. According to Counterpoint’s stats the global smartphone shipments will reach 1.25 billion units in 2024 after seeing decline for the last 2 years. Counterpoint previously predicted 4% growth, which was revised to 5% after seeing the macroeconomic conditions in the countries.

The global smartphone shipment is expected to grow in the upcoming years despite many geopolitical problems in the Middle East and Europe. Lizz Lee, Associate Director of Counterpoint, says that we will see a rise in the smartphone market because of the rise in its users. There are also many emerging smartphone markets like Africa, Latin America, Middle East, India and Southeast Asia which will help drive the smartphone market. We can also expect a lot from America and Europe. The already mature markets like Japan, China and South Korea are going to play a key role in growing revenue in smartphone shipment.

The introduction of GenAI devices is also going to play an important role in the growth of the market. The share of GenAI smartphones is expected to grow from one fifth in 2024 to almost half in 2028. Apple’s AI devices are going to boost the sales of GenAI smartphones in 2025. Chinese OEMs like Motorola, Huawei and HONOR are also going to drive some growth in the foldable smartphones market. Apple is also expected to release its foldable model in 2027, which will act as a catalyst for foldable smartphones.
