Apple Pressurizes China’s Tencent And ByteDance Into Making Changes That Facilitate Its 30% Commission

iPhone maker Apple is adding more pressure on popular Chinese companies Tencent and ByteDance to enable certain changes that would be in its favor.

The company wants the apps to get rid of any loopholes that serve as obstacles to Apple’s fixed 30% commission.

These were related to mini-apps which enable users of WeChat and ByteDance to give rise to games, hail taxis, and some more purchases done while remaining on the app.

Apple informed both firms that they needed to withhold creators from adding links related to external payment systems. As a result of this, it would ensure that it attains its fixed commission.

The company added that it wouldn’t wish to seek approval for future updates related to WeChat or Douyin until the organizations said yes.

Furthermore, the Cupertino firm has requested Tencent to disable any chats during the game that arise between both users and developers. This could also be used to share links as confirmed by Bloomberg.

The company has pushed back against ideas related to the negative impact that would occur on the gaming experience.

The report is characteristic of the decisions taken on by Apple with labels of bizarre and aggressive behavior included. This suggests how it could give rise to more tensions during a time when business practices keep getting scrutinized by antitrust regulators located globally.

Meanwhile, Apple’s rep who spoke to Bloomberg was quick to quote some guidelines regarding the sale of every digital product and how it needed to go through Apple’s system. Moreover, they highlighted how Apple’s review team has the right to reject application submissions violating the policy.
