Apple Draws Serious Criticism For Its ‘Out Of Office’ Ads, Forced To Issue Apology

Tech giant Apple has drawn serious criticism across the board for its latest ‘Out of Office’ ad featuring Thailand.

The company’s latest marketing stunt featured a portrayal of Thailand that was outdated and stereotypical of the popular Southeast Asian nation. This had citizens slamming the country, not to mention the massive amount of negative appeal it attained following the host of comments entering its direction.

The news comes right after the iPhone maker was previously bashed for its Crush ad related to the iPad Pro that was eliminated from a series of broadcasts in May. This was again looked down upon by experts in the creative community, forcing it to publicly apologize for hurting people’s sentiments.

One lawmaker from Thailand says it’s beyond disappointed because it expected better from Apple. The country is not only upset but deeply unhappy with the portrayal of the country through Apple’s eyes.

The incident has led to officials slamming the firm and going as far as to advise citizens to boycott the brand’s products and services.

The ad which is ten minutes long is the company’s latest venture for Underdogs that displayed a cast of colleagues that make use of products from Apple to solve problems at the workplace.

The advertisement debuted during the middle of July and it was a part of the Underdogs Team that navigated around the nation to find the latest packaging factory. So many citizens also felt the fact that it made use of Sepia filters was unacceptable.

Displaying the likes of airports, clothing, and transportation as well as hotels that misrepresented the nation as a location that was underdeveloped made so many feel bad.

But the Cupertino firm disagrees. It claims the intentions rolled around celebrating the nation’s optimism and culture while apologizing for not being able to show every positive light of Thailand’s great offerings.

Apple confirmed that it takes feedback so seriously and hence wouldn’t be airing this content any longer as per reports from 9to5Mac. Such ads were removed from the company’s YouTube channel too while the entire version of the ad is still available on Campaign as it reports the incident.

The country’s PM who was first seen promoting the ad is not speaking to reporters about how there are always two sides to a story. He feared that after backlash of this kind, the tech giant might be hesitant to invest in this nation. Hence, this could be beneficial for Android who would soon make the most of Apple’s downfall in Thailand.

While the advertisement is still up for viewing on the Apple main channel across YouTube, just one out of the five ads in the entire Underdogs series is present.

For now, Apple is yet to comment on whether or not it plans to add more content or completely scrape the project altogether.
