Appfigures analyzed top 100 apps to find out which type of apps get the most downloads and which apps earn the most revenue. Among the top apps, the most downloaded apps were from the gaming category, with 41% of the apps belonging to this category. 10% of the apps were from the Photo and video category. The third most downloaded apps were from the shopping category (8%). Entertainment (7%), Utilities (7%), Productivity (6%) and Social Networking (6%) were also among some of the most downloaded apps.
But if we talk about apps which generate the most revenue, gaming is still at the top with 54% of the total revenue. Entertainment apps are second with 14% of total revenue. Even though entertainment was not in the top five in terms of downloads, it is still doing great in revenue. Photo and Video apps generate 8% revenue and music generate 7% revenue.
Other apps which are doing good in terms of revenue are Music (7%), Social Networking (4%) and Lifestyle (3%). Even though music and lifestyle are not one of the top five most downloaded apps, they are still in top five app categories with the most revenue.
