WhatsApp Celebrates 100 Million Monthly Active User Milestone In The US

It wouldn’t be wrong to call WhatsApp one of the world’s most popular and reliable texting platforms. And today, the app is marking a major milestone as revealed by Meta’s CEO.

Mark Zuckerberg announced how the platform has hit 100M monthly active users in America alone. As per the company, some of the biggest and fastest-growing markets in the nation include areas such as Seattle, LA, New York, and Miami.

Still, the company is experiencing major growth in certain states of the South too as more than 10M users are present in Texas alone.

This also marks the first time data linked to users was rolled out since the company’s acquisition of the popular texting app and therefore proves how the app has really undergone massive growth over the years in America.

Ever since it was first purchased in 2014 for a whopping $16B, tech giant Meta has really put out so much effort to help make it a popular offering in the US as well as globally. One of the biggest ways through which it did that was via marketing it's accessible on both iOS and Android stores.

It’s easy to use, free of cost, and the ability to message anyone at any time, no matter where they are in the world has been some of the most sought-after features. It also captured a lot of fans’ attention when it combined the Modern Family cast for ad promotions to families.

Today, the platform has close to 2 billion users in more than 80 different nations. But it’s still not as popular in the US as other arch-rival offerings like iMessage from Apple.

Right now, it’s boasting about its milestone in America but things such as Apple’s decision to replace RCS between iPhones and Android devices could make it more difficult to compete.

For those who might not be aware, RCS is the name reserved for Rich Communication Services which serve as communication protocols amongst users of Android and iOS. With RCS arriving in the fall for the latest lineup of iPhones, users of iOS would no longer need to switch their group chats and use WhatsApp. Hence, Meta needs to come up with a strategy on how they can revamp marketing to better ensure they don’t lose out on its user base.
