Survey Finds Social Media Apps and Search Engine Companies Are Going to be the Most Impacted with AI

Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford did a survey in six countries to find out what people from different countries think about jobs being taken by AI. 12,271 adults took part in the survey and they were from the UK, USA, France, Argentina, Denmark, France and Japan. The survey found that 72% of the respondents think that AI is going to impact the social media companies the most.

71% of the respondents think the second most impacted field from AI will be search engine companies, followed by 66% respondents who think the news media is going to take the blow from AI. Healthcare professionals (59%), banks and financial institutions (59%) and military (56%) will also be affected with AI one way or another.

The national government is also going to get impacted by AI, said 53% of the respondents. Politicians (51%), law enforcement (50%), ordinary people (48%) and retailers (47%) will also have their jobs mostly handled by AI. Many of the social media apps have already started using AI like Meta launching AI on Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram. 29.3% in the USA already use generative AI, as of June 2024.
