Social Networks Have Become Social Video Platforms with Increased Average Watch Times

Nowadays, social media is mostly about videos and short form content. Most of the social media users spend their time watching reels and videos on different platforms. In terms of social video watching, TikTok is leading, with average watching time of 2.48 hours daily in 2024. In 2022, the average watching time on TikTok was 2.12 hours and in 2023, it was 2.20 hours.

If we talk about Instagram where users watch reels, the daily average watching time in 2024 is 2.46 hours. In 2022, it was nearly 2 hours but after reels, many users have started spending more of their time on the platform. The average watching time of Facebook is not as much as Instagram and TikTok, but it is still more than 2 hours (or 2.28 hours to be exact) daily in 2024.

In 2024, the average watching time on YouTube is 2.08 hours. In 2023, it was a bit higher but it decreased as many users started using TikTok and Instagram to watch short-form videos. The average daily watch time of Discord is 0.93 hours. Video watching on social media platforms accounts for 60% of the average time spent on those platforms.
