We’ve reached halfway into July 2024 and that means it’s time to get app intelligence related to June. Below, we’ve summarized the statistics for the most downloaded and highest revenue-earning platforms. So let’s take a look!
Seeing the figures for the most downloaded platform around the globe in June, it’s safe to say that June saw more movement than that observed in May of this year. Figures did not remain stagnant.
Instagram went head to head with the popular social media app TikTok and beat it again, getting crowned as the world’s most downloaded app. As per estimates, figures hit 61 million devices which was a new record last month. The app’s reign for download success began in 2023 and from the looks of it, it’s going strong. But we’re not sure if this is directly related to more demand on Instagram or TikTok’s downfall in terms of popularity. Experts think the latter stands true.
Nevertheless, TikTok came second in terms of most downloads witnessed globally where estimates hit 52 million in June of this year. While you’d assume that the US might not be the leading market for the entertainment app, the American market for TikTok witnessed a mega 25% rise this 2024.
To round up the top five, we’ve got Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram. The latter dropped from the top five list in May of this year, despite recording a solid and constant performance for several months now. Today, it’s back with downloads hitting the 32M mark.
For June, the bottom five apps were also interesting to notice. Temo came sixth and perhaps its costly advertising campaigns seem to have come in handy as they were well-timed, giving the platform the exposure it needed to succeed.
Slowly but surely, Meta’s Threads app is displaying a choking impact on Musk’s X app, rising to the eighth position in June with 23 million downloads. X lagged in terms of downloads with 12 million seen in both Google and Apple’s App Stores. Meanwhile, another great entry that made this list for June was Disney+ Hotstar, which never made the chart before but did this time with 23M downloads.
All in all, the top 10 apps in terms of downloads managed to strike a whopping 355M installations around the world which is a little less than that seen in the previous month.
Moving on to the highest-earning apps for June 2024, the trend related to rising revenue continues to go strong.
No surprises here as TikTok continued its winning streak by generating the highest revenue last month, bringing in a whopping $201 million in revenue through both App Stores on Apple and Google.
In second place it was YouTube that trailed not so closely with a net revenue of $135 million. Furthermore, to round up the top five, it was Disney+, Tinder, and Max and if you do like to keep tabs on such trends, you’ll immediately see how the lineup is very similar to what was seen in May this year.
In fact, the list is the exact same until the eighth position with no change, now that’s what experts call sticky!
To complete the top 10, Crunchyroll and Hulu also managed to make their way inside as Tencent Video was given the boot.
As a whole, the top 10 highest-earning apps for June 2024 managed to bring in revenue of $796 million for publishers to be proud of. It’s slightly greater than that seen for May.
