Meta Tests AI Summaries In Post Comment Streams Across Facebook

Meta is currently experimenting with the greatness of expanding AI capacity across all of its apps and Facebook is no exception.

The tech giant is working on AI summaries to feature post-comment streams on the app. This would summarize people’s opinions on a certain post so it’s simpler to comprehend on the user’s end.

A new example shared by a user on Threads shows how AI-based comment summaries would be seen across post-comment streams to give an overview regarding the latest update.

But the real question is whether or not that’s going to be helpful because from what we can confirm, you’d like to scroll through the comments section and see many opinions before making up your own mind. Isn’t that how human nature works?

However, if you are on the run or simply don’t have the patience to scroll through long comment sections, you can attain the summary on real chats generated by AI.

We’re already aware of how popular video streaming app YouTube is testing AI comment summaries that would keep discussions brief as they’re separated topic-wise.

X is working in a similar fashion where it generates summaries through its AI Grok chatbot to give rise to more trending news story examples. These are found on the app and based on the posts generated. But only if you’re a Premium member would you be able to benefit, Musk adds.

Meta’s summaries based on comments are more or less in line with that seen with X but it’s more at the individual posting level. But as experts say, it’s not adding a lot of extra to the whole Facebook app experience. There is a plus side where you can give your feedback on the summary and see how accurate they are in the end.

We see Meta really trying hard to immerse its users in the generative AI experience, whether they like it or not. It’s detracting many from the main offerings of leading social media apps. It’s said to be a social element that facilitates human interactions but only time can tell how successful they become after the actual launch to the masses.

We agree that going through long replies on a single post is not easy and very tiresome. Having a summary of the overall views of people might make it simpler to attain an understanding of how others feel. However, some users agree that their main goal right now is to engage and interact which could only be done through individual comments and not reading a consensus of views in summary form.

If you personally ask us, it might be a miss on Meta’s part as this would give rise to less engagement because most of the latter arises from the likes of comments. And when you eliminate that factor, there’s not a lot left to play with.
