Meta has just launched a useful feature for developers that adds the Threads API to websites.
The feature is called Web Intents and it can give rise to direct links to the app from external pages so that more users can share their links to the app, include comments, and much more.
A statement was published recently on this front that spoke about how clicking on this new URL will allow a new window to pop up where users are directed to Threads to finish all intended actions.
On smartphones, the feature will open up the Threads platform wherever it’s downloaded. In case they’re not logged in, they can sign in or even create a new account on the app through this feature.
We agree that the same can be done through the app directly where users share posts or comments in a certain place, for instance, by sharing to another social media platform. Now, you can do the same across Threads so it’s a great way to combine the platform into the bigger web experience.
The app rolled out a new API in this regard last month which gave rise to the posting and scheduling of posts, while also adding insights regarding analytics that users could access from third-party locations. This will make it simpler for publishers and businesses to combine the app into their everyday workflow. Hence, we’ll certainly see more content entering the platform and expanding usage with engagement.
Web Intents is another way to drive app usage and it would be great to witness how such additions impact the app when Meta reports insights on this front.
At the start of this month, the company highlighted how Threads has more than 175M users who are active each month. This is just one year after the launch arose. It’s quite impressive and still has a long while to go before it catches up to X, which many feel is its competitor and similar variant.
Today, X has 250M DAU while Threads’ growth in terms of userbase cannot be denied either. It’s slowly but surely entering the scene as a popular choice for many.
Still, to reach X status, Meta really needs to up its game and include more such features for Threads to speed up the momentum if it hopes to make the app a really strong player in today’s social media market.
