According to a new report from PwC, a job consulting firm, the jobs that can be easily done by AI are declining. On the other hand, the jobs that are harder to do for AI are still in demand. Other skills that require AI development and building machine learning languages are also becoming popular. The report suggests that if individuals with jobs that can easily be done with AI need to stay employed, they will have to learn new skills to stay relevant. The jobs that require AI skills are also growing 3.5% faster than any other jobs.
In the USA, many employers have mentioned in their job listings that they will pay a 25% wage premium for the jobs that require AI skills. Administrator and database designers can get up to 53% wage premium if they have AI skills and use them for work. Even lawyers can get a 49% wage premium if they acquire any AI skills.
The report also talks about how AI isn’t making people lose their jobs quickly. It is going to be a gradual process where it can even solve labor shortages in the countries where there are less people working. This will impact the economies of aging societies in a positive way. AI is going to produce many new jobs for people that do not even exist right now. Even the productivity in jobs with AI environments have increased five times as compared to jobs which are not yet exposed to AI.
Even with all the talks about AI snatching and giving jobs to people, International Monetary Fund Chief, Kristalina Georgieva, has said that AI is destroying people’s jobs. We need to take actions against it or else AI will spread more misinformation and inequality in society. Only if we use AI well can we increase our productivity.
