Ever since online shopping has become a norm, many people also try shopping through social media apps and websites. Even though people trust e-commerce sites more when it comes to shopping online, some people shop on social media apps. The InfluencerMarketingFactory surveyed 1,000 US consumers to know their thoughts about online shopping and their preferred ecommerce platforms. The survey found that 62% of consumers trust e-commerce websites more than social media sites for online shopping.
Half of the people surveyed also said that they like online as well as offline shopping. If social media apps start selling products online, it increases their in-app purchases which play an important role in their revenue. But the behavior of consumers suggests that they don't trust shopping on social media. This is because they don't like doing transactions on social media platforms because of security reasons.
31% of the consumers in the US say that using social media for shopping isn't trustworthy to them. It is because they have no security on their data on social media and they cannot trust the seller fully. The consumers who have purchased something from social media are the ones who bought clothing products from there. 40% of the consumers say that reviews about a product are very important for them on social media if they are about to buy something. But the survey also says that if a person sees a product on social media about two to three times, that is enough for him to buy that product. The biggest reason why consumers don't trust social media purchases is because of all the scams and fake reviews that happen on social media. It may take some time to tackle this problem but once it is tackled, consumers may start shopping from social media.
