The rise of AI is often seen with no small amount of suspicion because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up rendering regular jobs obsolete. However, the data that is being collected regarding how AI is being used at present seems to suggest that this doesn’t have to be the only outcome that people can look forward to. Quite on the contrary, a recent study indicated that AI actually created more jobs than might have been the case otherwise.
This data comes from a report published by the Institute for the Future of Work which is based at the Imperial College London. Over a thousand firms were surveyed in order to gain a better understanding of their perceptions surrounding the use of AI. With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that 78% of them said that the use of AI and the incorporation of automated processes into their work flows directly contributed to new jobs being created.
In spite of the fact that this is the case, there were some that were not all that positive about the role of AI. 47% of the people that responded to this survey stated that AI had removed certain jobs that used to be available. Then again, 67% reported that new positions opened up, which is a clear indication that the AI revolution is not having the exact same impact on everyone living in the world.
The unequal distribution of AI related jobs might benefit some more than others with all things having been considered and taken into account. It will be interesting to see what type of affect this has on the future of AI, since there are many who would still try to claim that it will do more harm than good. Whatever the case may be, AI is here to stay and whatever impact it has will likely ripple out for many decades to come and completely transform the shape and face of the world of work as we know it.
