Google has been making enormous changes to its various applications because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up streamlining their aesthetics. The Google Weather widget that used to be a part of Google Search is now being turned into a standalone app, which is a far greater update than most people predicted with all things having been considered and taken into account.
With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that this will allow Google to send out specific updates for the Weather App exclusively. The Material You redesign is also changing the way the app behaves when you tap on it, and it is one of fifty apps from Google that are currently in the process of getting a facelift.
This update has not been rolled out yet, but a new APK was spotted by 9to5google that indicates that it will come sooner than one might expect. There is also a strong change that Weather will be integrated with the Clock app, which would help provide more functionality to both features than might have been the case otherwise.
It is expected that the new app will receive a rollout sometime next month, although we will have to wait and see what Google’s final plans are. Many are hoping for more detailed updates from the app, such as specifying how much rain is expected rather than simply stating that it will rain on a given day. The Clock app’s widget for the homescreen is also a prime area for Weather app integration, and it will be interesting to see which of these options Google goes for.
Given the high level of customizability that is inherent to Android, it is also likely that Google will leave the choice up to users. Numerous assets have been added to Clock which are clearly going to cater to future Weather app integration, and this looks to be one of many updates and changes that Google will be making in the near future as part of its wider Material You push across its various products.
