The rise of AI has created countless opportunities because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up creating new jobs. However, these jobs are not spread evenly across the US. They are clustered in major urban centers, but even there some disparity can be noted with all things having been considered and taken into account.
With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that the Institute for Human Centered AI at Stanford University just put out its latest AI Index Report. With over 142,000 AI related jobs available, California unsurprisingly made it to the top of the list.
This state is home to corporations like Microsoft, which is currently leading the AI charge. Meta and Google, both of which are also investing quite heavily into AI, are also headquartered in this state which makes AI jobs more widely available than might have been the case otherwise.
In spite of the fact that this is the case, many other states were also featured at fairly high rankings. Texas, New York and Florida also had an abundance of AI related jobs. This is understandable since these states have large populations that make them ideal candidates for industries such as AI to thrive.
However, if we were to look at AI jobs as a proportion of overall jobs, a few other states stand out. 1.5% of all jobs in the US were AI related, but Arkansas and Delaware beat the national average with 2% and 2.7% each.
Also, while it is not a state, Washington DC had the highest proportion of AI related jobs out of any other region in the US. 3% of the jobs that people can apply for in the District of Columbia are in the field of AI, which might make Washington a hub for innovation in the near future.
All in all, moving to states with large populations can certainly help you to get an AI job. Delaware and Arkansas are also adequate options due to the higher proportion that is prevalent there.
