Snap has done well to set itself apart despite some unsavory competitors who seem to be copying its features and genericizing them. A massive part of its strategy has involved its AR push because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up offering Lenses and other features to users that they would not be able to easily find anywhere else.
With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that Snap will be expanding these AR offerings for Enterprise users as well in a brand new suite. Dubbed the Shopping Suite, it will be part of a wider project called AR Enterprise Services, or ARES for short. Snap is attempting to help these enterprises gain more customers through its platform than might have been the case otherwise, and it will be interesting to see what the Shopping Suite ends up compromising.
Around 250 million Snapchat users take advantage of AR tools on a day basis, which is a significant chunk of the around 375 million monthly active users that go to Snapchat. This has resulted in AR lenses pertaining to shopping being used approximately 5 billion times, so it’s easy to see what Snapchat has to offer enterprises that are willing to give the suite a try.
One way in which AR lenses can come in handy is that they can allow shoppers to try on clothes while staying at home. The Lenses can enable users to put the clothes on in a virtual reality, and while this might not be quite the same as trying them on in real life, it will do a lot to improve the buying confidence of consumers with all things having been considered and taken into account.
Companies won’t have to set up Snapchat accounts to use these lenses either. Instead, they can simply focus on incorporating these features into their own websites. That will allow Snapchat to expand its footprint beyond its own proprietary platform and become a service provider in a way that few other social media companies have managed.
