India Makes Enormous Strides With 6G After Successful 5G Rollout

India has rapidly turned itself into a tech hub, and that has led many to suggest that it will be the next major superpower in the world. The trillion dollar South Asian economy has seen an enormous amount of success with its 5G rollout, and it is estimated that around 300 million Indians will have access to 5G by 2025.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that there are an estimated 30 million 5G users as of March 2023. That means that 5G users will increase tenfold in India within the span of just 2 years, and that will do a lot to give India an edge over its geographical competitors.

What’s more, India’s not just stopping with 5G. The South Asian nation has also started to look to the future, with a plan having been laid out for the rollout of 6G. According to India’s IT minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, around 100 6G patents have been acquired by multiple institutions throughout the country with all things having been considered and taken into account.

With 5G coverage now extending to just under 400 Indian towns, the stage is set for India to move on to 6G far earlier than might have been the case otherwise. That will allow them to surpass other nations that have not yet been able to fully rollout 5G despite their advanced stages of development.

This upgrade to 6G could be critical because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up allowing India to take its place as one of the great nations of the world. This could also tip the balance from the West to the East, and create another geopolitical struggle as India and China face off with each other.

Based on the current numbers, 6G might start to get rolled out in India by as early as 2029. It will be interesting to see if India is able to pull this off, since this isn’t the first time the nation has made bold plans which it was later forced to scrap.
