TikTok’s journey towards rapidly becoming the single biggest social media platforms in the world have been hindered somewhat by recent attempts to ban it. The CEO of TikTok, Shou Zi Chew, has been trying very hard to convince people that a ban is never going to happen. In spite of the fact that this is the case, things have not been going so well on that front.
With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that Chew recently met with high ranking government officials within the US. He pointed to the large number of users that TikTok has who would be deprived of their favorite social media platform, urging the decision makers to not take things so lightly.
Unfortunately, it does not seem like the people he met were convinced by his arguments. TikTok is still being considered a threat that could make US citizens less secure than might have been the case otherwise, and that will result in the CEO having to fight long and hard to prevent the social media platform from fading into obscurity.
Bipartisan support will make things even worse because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up putting more people into the anti-Tik Tok camp. While the social media platform does have some friends in high places, it is facing an uphill battle if it wants to keep gaining access to consumers who are based in the US with all things having been considered and taken into account.
It has to be mentioned that the Chinese government might be the biggest weakness for the social media platform. The government has significant oversight over the goings on at the company, and unless the company manages to decouple from the CCP entirely, it will be difficult to convince anyone in the US that they aren’t up to no good.
The fact that the CEO had to enter the fray is quite telling. It suggests that TikTok is fighting for its life, and there is no telling what will happen next.
