Meta Revamps Facebook Users’ Profile Bios By Removing All Personal Details

It seems like a new year calls for a new beginning and that’s why before 2022 ends, Meta is making sure Facebook Users’ profiles receive a change, as first spotted by Matt Navarra.

From December 1st onwards, all Facebook account holders will have a bunch of personal details removed when profiles are shared, as confirmed by a spokesperson from the firm on Wednesday.

Meta adds that such fields entailing the ‘Interested In’ tab would be removed as it feels the information is too personal. So that means ‘Religious Views’, ‘Address’, and ‘Political Views’ will be eliminated now. Most other details like contact information would remain.

As far as why such details are being removed and that too so soon, well, Facebook is yet to go into those details. In the past week, Meta which is Facebook’s owner let off nearly 11,000 employees. This is 13% of the company’s workforce. The goal was to save money as it had lost billions on things such as the Metaverse and also on luxury spending.

Perhaps the goal here is to eliminate address fields and sensitive questions so people feel more comfortable joining than before.

Update: Facebook mentioned last year that it'll removing certain ad targeting options for its advertisers and the removal of some personal profile data seems in line with that discion.
