WhatsApp Is Working On Bringing An Export Backup That’s Stored On Google Drive

WhatsApp is currently working on an interesting and super useful update for users. It comprises an export backup that is stored on Google Drive.

In January of this year, we heard about the company making some major changes to the backup settings on different users’ Google Drive accounts.

To be more specific, it was soon revealed how the app and Google could be partnering where the latter would be providing limited plans to store backups on the app. But that plan was only preliminary and no further update by the company was provided during that time.

Hence, we are not sure if there have been any more changes since that initial plan by Google but what we do know, thanks to Wabetainfo, is that the app is busy working on an update that would export backups that are currently present in Google Drive.

Users will be able to find a new button at the bottom part of their settings that allows them to export any backup stored in their Google accounts.

This would include a complete chat history comprising of the likes of texts, pictures, videos, and any other type of media files from the users’ accounts. But wait, that’s not it. The app is also trying to get on board with another cool feature that allows users to import a similar backup onto their Google Drive too.

Therefore, this gives users so much more authority over any sort of backups stored on their drive account.

We’re not quite sure why exactly the company is creating a similar functionality for imports. For now, that’s all the information we have. Hence, we’ll just need to stay tuned as the export update is still under its development phase.

We should be seeing the release as a part of the app’s update in the near future so we’ll keep an eye out for that.
