A lot of people using devices, networks and communication systems think that they are well versed about cyber security and can protect themselves and their data easily. However, a recent report by Kaspersky might force many people to rethink their self-evaluation on cyber security.
Conducted by Kaspersky on around 12,500 of its security awareness platform users, the report shows that most people possess only a limited amount of cyber security knowledge which makes both them and their companies or businesses vulnerable to dangerous cyber security problems.
Moving in towards statistics, Kaspersky mentioned that around 90 percent out of the 12,500 people overestimated their knowledge about cyber security. Now that is a big enough number thus it gives us the impression that a large part of internet and technology users have this misunderstanding.
Kaspersky, while testing for cyber security skills in workers, decided to run people through basic cyber security tests and identified common mistakes in some of the easiest tasks.
The report identified that 83 percent of the workers did not knew about which card details to send over the internet, 73 percent of the workers did not know how to check for signs of un-allowed access on their account, 70 percent did not know what to do incase a newly downloaded application asks for their Google account passwords, whereas around 51 percent of them do not know what to do when a co-worker asks for their computer password while they are away at a trip or leave.
Now these are truly shocking results since these are considered to be really small and menial tasks and are a part of our everyday lives. While you may think that these are small things and pose no big danger, it can actually cause large dangers to organizations and give important data and network access into untrusted hands.
With time most organizations have gotten themselves a large amount of privacy services that keeps them safe from hackers, therefore hackers target the easiest way to get into systems and that is uninformed and untrained employees thus it is important to promote cyber security training and knowledge amongst all employees and protect yourself and your organizations against cyber security threats.
