Social media trends often change quite drastically on a yearly basis, and many people working in the digital marketing industry need to be cognizant of these trends because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up allowing them to implement much more effective marketing campaigns. GWI analyzed the social media use of over 2.7 billion people in order to ascertain some of the biggest tends that one can expect in the year 2022.
One thing that you might be able to notice quite quickly in the report that GWI released which contains all of this analysis is that social media engagement appears to have reached a ceiling. After seeing record breaking engagement numbers in 2020, these statistics appear to be leveling off and reaching a plateau. With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that users in the MEA are still engaging with social media content a lot more frequently which suggests that there might still be a fair bit of growth to see.
A rather impressive statistic that can be seen with TikTok’s huge growth rate which has resulted in the number of monthly active users that this site has increasing by 32% since 2020. While most of its current user base might consist of younger users and the like, much of the newer accounts being made on the platform belong to Gen X users and baby boomers. These older users finally starting to look into TikTok is allowing the platform to continue its exponential growth well into 2022.
The rise of TikTok has obviously resulted in short form content becoming the standard form of content for anyone to end up investing into, but it should also be noted that Gen Z users say that they don’t really have a preference when it comes to choosing between short form and long form content. Regardless, 61% of the users that were involved in this survey said that they created Stories on Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat which means that creating shorter clips that will be shared for a brief duration is one of the most popular ways of using social media out there.
There also appears to be a much higher demand for content on newsfeeds that is a realistic representation of how people are living their lives. 39% of Gen Z users said that they didn’t care about impressing other people on social media as much as they previously did, with 34% of Millennials also saying the same. Gen X users also agreed with this sentiment, with the percentage being 26% and 22% for Gen X and baby boomers respectively.
A few aspects of social media are also going to stay somewhat consistent in 2022, with around 50% of all users saying that they used it to stay in touch with friends or family. All of these trends as well as relevant statistics can be checked out in the new report, and many of them might have a huge effect on how digital marketing is implemented as well as how social media platforms might change with all things having been considered and taken into account.
