The growth of the mobile gaming industry has been quite a miraculous thing to witness for several different reasons, but mostly because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up allowing multiple new companies and developers to not just set up shop but also thrive. This growth has also been both consistent as well as dramatic, with the rate of growth steadily increasing over time.
According to a quarterly report that was just released by Data.Ai, around $22 billion dollars were spent by consumers on mobile games alone in Q1 2022. With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that this comprises a majority of the total money that consumers spent on various app stores, including both the Google Play Store as well as the Apple App Store. This shows that mobile games just had their strongest quarter yet in terms of total spending that consumers were willing to take part in.
There has also been a 45% year on year increase in total game downloads, with them now touching just under 800 million downloads per week. This is a huge increase from the 550 million weekly downloads that were seen in 2019, and that suggests that the pandemic surge in mobile game spending might just be continuing well into the post-pandemic era with all things having been considered and taken into account.
However, it is essential to bear in mind that mobile games comprise a larger chunk of consumer spending on the Google Play Store as compared to the App Store. Around 73% of consumer spends focused on games on the Play Store, with only 60% going towards games on the App Store. That might be because there are certain Android phones that have been specially designed for high end mobile games, but iPhones are no slouch when it comes to gaming either so it might have more to do with their being a larger variety of mobile games on the Play Store among other reasons.
