After a whistleblower leaked a lot of highly compromising information about Facebook, information which revealed that Facebook is actually trying to profit off of the misinformation that so frequently gets shared on its platform, a number of current and former Facebook employees have started to speak out.
The things that they are saying have been a mixed bag, with some defending the social media juggernaut and others claiming that the whistleblower has done the right thing because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up preventing Facebook from making things worse than they already are.
A former Facebook exec by the name of Fidji Simo has decided to defend the platform. Simo used to head the Facebook app, and she has spoken out in defense of her former employer as well as Mark Zuckerberg himself. While Simo is now the CEO of InstaCart, she has stated that Facebook spends billions in order to defend the people that use its app, and that the problems that are being faced right now are too complex to be solved in such a short period of time.
This seems to be in line with what a lot of other people are saying, and with all of that having been said and now out of the way it is important to note that Simo was not really interviewed about Facebook itself but rather to discuss her new role. It might be that she is unwilling to burn bridges with a highly influential tech CEO when her own CEO career is in its nascent stages, but whatever the case may be this kind of rhetoric is often seen from people who want to make it seem like Facebook is doing the best that it can. Whether or not this is true remains to be seen.
