A lot of people use this app because of the fact it could potentially end up allowing them to get to where they need to go in a really speedy manner, however, it is important to note that the turn by turn navigation that you might have previously relied on is no longer going to be as readily available to you if you value the privacy of your data.
Users will now see a popup when they try to use turn by turn navigation that would tell them that Google needs to track them on their routes in order to improve their databases, as reported by 9to5G. This is ostensibly being done in order to make it so that Google can get a better idea about optimal routes and other important pieces of traffic related data, but the thought of being tracked during a journey is something that a lot of users are just not going to want to think about.
It seems like Google is going to be using the stick rather than the carrot in this situation, since if you don’t agree to let Google track you then you won’t be able to use turn by turn navigation at all anymore. Instead, you would have to make do with the standard user interface which is not quite as helpful.
