Wearable augmented reality devices are the new step in modern technology. Virtual reality devices have been out there for quite a long time and are famous among gamers but now it is time to introduce Augmented reality in the form of eyewear .
Apple being a tech giant is always ready to get itself involved in innovating such devices. Lately they have been working on their own device for showcasing augmented reality and named it as Apple Glass. It is believed that these Apple Glass are going to deliver a massive impact on everyone. Since AR devices will be made on the same concept of a VR device and in light of the articles posted by Apple insider it can be expected that Apple has studied these VR devices thoroughly and the outcomes of those studies will be visible on their product.
Apple is focused on fixing two main issues that comes with eyewear devices. As expected from the tech giant both of these issues are linked with user safety. The first issue is to ensure that while Apple Glass is on, the user won’t bump into anyone or anything in real life. The other issue is that while the camera is on or a video is being recorded the people in the surrounding are kept aware so if anyone tries to record anything without approval is not able to do so.
Starting with the protection against bumping into anything, Apple has decided to put a line that will divide real world from virtual world. They are going to accomplish this by adding images from the surrounding in the AR device. This will give user an idea of the surrounding. The concept behind this is similar to how the proximity sensor works in a car. An image will be shown to the user whenever they will be approaching a nearby object.
According to Apple, inserting images of the nearby objects is an initiative to ensure safety from any type of accident. The company appreciated the team that made this possible however they even suggested other ways as well through which it can be achieved this included adding speakers along with an opaque display or using optical reflectors as well or maybe a combination.
Developers are not only working to insert the images but they are also working on how the image will be shown. Such as if the image is too big then it can lead to impact the user experience in both AR world and real world. They are also working on how quickly the image will be adapted according to the movement of an object. Such as if a ball is being kicked, then it will work accordingly just like reality where as the ball goes away from the user, the size of it will decrease. This is how Apple is planning to provide a safe experience to its Apple Glass users.
The other issue is to ensure the safety of people around an Apple Glass user. This will be done by letting the people know when the camera is recording them. This feature is already present in MacBook Pro where whenever the camera is recording something, a white light will turn on which is present at the back to let others know. However, this light can be covered with a tape. This is why they are going a step ahead for Apple Glass. The developers are working on features that won’t let anyone tamper the external indicators while recording a video. And in case if anyone will try to tamper it, video will stop recording.
Apple has introduced ways that can prevent anyone tampering the indicators. One of this is if LED indicators are turned on while recording and someone tried to tamper them and the system is not able to recognize the pattern, video recording will stop from continuing. Another possible method is the use of an external key. This key will not only inform others when they are being recorded, simultaneously if the key is not detected, video recording will not proceed.
It is yet to be discovered which feature will be selected by the company to prevent anyone recording others without their consent however it can be expected that Apple will bring an innovative device that will change a lot of things for everyone.
