Avast reports the most threatening malware that is faced by Android Phones

With the advancement in technology, people now have access to an unlimited number of tech resources. However, with the expansion in the tech world and the ultimate success it is conquering one thing which is also increasing is malwares and cybercrimes.

Cybercrimes, are crimes which take place on the internet without the users even having an idea that they may at a potential risk and most commonly cybercriminals attack you through your mobile phone devices.

However, though Apple has been fairly successful in protecting its users from such malware by providing a more secured software, Android may be lagging a bit behind.

A cyber security firm named, Avast, reported after a collection of data and surveys that a mobile malware called Adware has been the top most cybersecurity threat to all Android users, as the report stated that 45 percent of the mobile threats which were found on Android were related to Adware, that too alone in the first five months of 2021. In case, you do not know what an Adware is, and are having trouble understanding what we just said above, it’s okay let us elaborate. Adware’s are ads of applications or related stuff which appear as if they are potentially safe and convinces the user in downloading them. However, in reality they are a threat to the user safety.

Adware has a bunch of types of its own and according to the report the most commonly spreading Adware is a type called HiddenAds Family. Though, this is not the end. The cyber security firm found another two types of Adware, that were the most major one’s found on different Android phones, called Fraud and Traditional types. Fraud ad is the most dangerous, where an adware downloads a suspicious file without the knowledge of the user along with the adware infected application which it lures them into downloading and then runs malicious activities in the background while Traditional type convinces users to download a specific type of application mostly related to gaming or lifestyle and then starts showing harmful advertisements on that application as well as on other applications.
Apart from this, two other types of cyber threats on phone were observed to be Fake ads and banking Trojan, each observed to be at 16 percent and 10 percent respectively, as notified by Avast in their report.

Fake Ads are basically applications that externally show that they are legitimate applications, however in reality they collect your data and expose you to harmful content while Banking Trojan gains your trust by portraying themselves as authentic banking application and lures you into giving your bank account details, which then later turns out to be a scam making the user face a loss.

Users should be aware of such types of malware infected applications and try to protect themselves as much as they can. Apart from this personal details should also be avoided to be given to applications that seem suspicious.
