Microsoft Legacy Edge was included as the Windows 10 operating system’s web browser that too as default. The web browser was first named ‘Spartan’ but then the official name decided for the browser was Edge, it was launched last year and in August of the same year it was announced that the desktop application of the Microsoft Edge Legacy web browser would lose support by March of 2021 due to the evolution of the new Microsoft Edge. The desktop application of the Microsoft Edge Legacy will now receive no more security updates.
According to Microsoft Edge Team, the Microsoft Edge Legacy is getting replaced with the new and improved Microsoft Edge which is based on Chromium code whose beta version was tested in 2019 and was officially launched on 15th January of 2020. The new browser is of course compatible with all the supported versions of Windows. What separates this browser from the previous ones is that the performance, speed and new security features are really a level high and will definitely be the epitome of what a perfect browser should be like. The Patch Tuesday Cycle of April 2021 will replace the Edge Legacy version with this new Chromium based one all Windows 10 devices. Microsoft will definitely release an update related to this.
Microsoft when announcing this said that the update should not be missed by anyone using Windows 10. All of the defaults settings such as personalized desktop will stay put, and if a user has the Microsoft Edge Legacy as their default browser then it will automatically get replaced to the new Microsoft Edge and will get pinned to the taskbar as well.
Even though the Microsoft Edge Legacy web browser was much loved by everyone and was also easy to use by people of all ages, the new version of the Edge will for sure be getting more usage from users all over the world. With the security updates and new features that Microsoft plans for this new Chromium based browser, everyone will soon forget about the older version of Edge. Microsoft has always developed everything up to the mark.
If the user doesn’t get the new browser on their desktop they can directly download it from Microsoft’s website.
