Many social media platforms has taken a step to prevent the spread of misinformation in public including Facebook. The social network this week revealed that it has removed more than 1.3 billion accounts involved in distribution of fake information and further it has also removed more than 12 million fake content pieces about COVID-19 from October to December of last year with the help of its content moderation teams from around the world.

The US house committee on Energy and Commerce has inspected the data of social media including Facebook that how these platforms tackle the spread of misinformation. Facebook told the house committee that it has scrutinized and removed secret foreign and local influence operations that are relied on these misleading accounts. Facebook took some serious actions over the past 3 years and removed more than 100 networks of coordinated inauthentic behavior (CIB) from its platform and further is has informed its every step to public though its monthly CIB report. Facebook also runs other social media and messaging app including Instagram and WhatsApp in which people can share and post the fake information even in a good faith so that people become aware of what is fake news so not to rely on it, to check the facts to these shares, Facebook has also created a network of more than 80 independents from all over the world who can check the nature of contents in more than 60 languages.
