Wireless charging is often referred to as being the next big thing in the world of tech because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up allowing people to keep their phones and other devices charged without having to worry about cables and the like. Some companies have made some headway in this regard but for the most part wireless charging has been a novelty rather than the sort of thing that has actual practical applications that anyone might want to genuinely end up taking advantage of.
With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that Apple has filed a few patents (as reported by PA) that indicate an exciting new direction as far as their Macbooks are concerned. These patents seem to indicate that future Macbooks are going to make it so that you can wirelessly charge your other Apple devices directly from them by placing them on the charging pad that would be included in Macbooks that are made once this technology ends up being fully implemented.
One thing that people should keep in mind is that Samsung already has similar features in their Galaxy phones, with flagship variants offering wireless charging if you place other devices on the charging pad they have on the back. Apple seems to be willing to take things a step further, though. If and when this technology ends up being implemented, it would indicate a massive shift away from cables that Apple is more than likely going to want to continue well into the future. However, it is by no means guaranteed that Apple will be rolling such products out anytime soon since the company often files patents but takes a really long time to actually end up working on them for the general public.
