Not all that long ago, the soon to be former president of the United States of America Donald Trump started casting aspersions on the enormously popular social media app TikTok by claiming, without any evidence, that the Chinese government might be using it to spy on US citizens. Because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up compromising national security in the US, the Trump administration decided to bank TikTok unless it sold off its American assets to an American company with Microsoft being one of the frontrunners to end up acquiring the app.
With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that TikTok missed its deadline. Thrice. The first deadline was in was the 28th of September but this was pushed back to the 27th of November which was then pushed back again to the 4th of December. According to the Trump administration, there would no further extensions to this deadline yet the 4th of December is long past and TikTok has failed to meet the requirements that the US government had imposed on it. In spite of the fact that this is the case, the Trump administration has not really commented on the issue at all.
This might be because of the fact that Donald Trump just lost his reelection bid and is more focused on other things such as hamstringing the incoming administration of his soon to be successor Joe Biden. Or it could just be another example of gross incompetence on the part of a president who has truly been unprecedented in his inability to lead a nation that elected him and instead focus on creating partisan divides without really having any idea of how a country is supposed to be run.
