Google has been thinking of a lot of different creative ways in which people can end up figuring out the kind of experience they want to have while they are under lockdown. One particular feature that has been incorporated into Google Search as a result of the fact that this is the case is the presence of AR animals. If you search for an animal such as a dog or a cat, you would find an AR card that would encourage you to virtually engage with such an animal and their AR representation.
With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that Google is now adding fifty more AR animals to its list. This includes dozens of dog breeds as well as cat breeds. This means that you can now search for very specific animals and get a result that would allow you to have a virtual interaction with said animal.
This is definitely something that is being done to help stave off the loneliness that many are feeling due to the lockdown that everyone is being forced to take part in due to the impact that the pandemic has ended up having on the world at large, but at the same time it does have a strangely dystopian feel to it.
Some are even comparing this feature with the popular techno-paranoia speculative fiction show Black Mirror. It certainly does invoke those kinds of things, but at the same time TV shows and other fictional pieces of media are designed in such a way that they are supposed to heighten the drama surrounding various things. This does not necessarily mean that they represent reality, so this new addition from Google is most likely just something that the company is doing to keep its huge user base happy.
