Alessandro Paluzzi, a leaker and mobile developer who discovers various features and upcoming tools in different apps has recently reported that Facebook is working on a new ‘Archived Chats’ folder in its Messenger app.
He has shared a screenshot along with his tweet that shows the new ‘Archived Chats’ folder right underneath the ‘Dark Mode’ and ‘Message Requests.’
Chat folders are integrated into different messaging services. Keeping your chats and messages in specific folders make your messenger apps look very organized and you can easily look for some particular messages in one of your folders without any trouble.
While different messenger apps provide various folders like ‘Current’ messages, or even ‘deleted’ messages, the folder for Archived messages is sometimes a life-saver in many ways! Imagine that there is a chat or a message that you do not wish to see in your messenger, but you do not wish to delete also and get rid of it permanently for whatever reason. Now, you can archive it in your archived chat folder. This way, that message or chat will not bother your vision by constantly appearing in front of your eyes in your messenger, neither it will be completely gone.
Facebook Messenger is trying to become more user-friendly now and the company keeps on bringing new features and tools that other messenger services and apps already have, and that makes the apps easier to use and far more accessible. Bringing this new folder for ‘Archived Chats’ is one such attempt.
On the other hand, just a few days ago, security researchers Tommy Mysk and Talal Haj Bakry issued a report in which they told that Facebook Messenger subjects its users to huge privacy and security risks as it uses server-side link previews. This means that when a sender sends the link of a site or a personal document to someone, a third-party (which is employed by Facebook but remains unknown to the users) downloads that link or message that the sender is trying to send to someone. Now, this message may contain all types of personal information that we do not know as to what extent is gathered or collected by this third-party. Eventually, this third-party generates a link preview for the link that the sender has sent from their end, and the recipient has received it at their side. But this whole process in the background poses the sender with immense privacy and security threat, and that is why these security researchers have suggested users to refrain from trusting Facebook Messenger a lot!
