Windows 10 has started to become a fairly old operating system now, but in spite of the fact that this is the case a lot of users are still taking advantage of Windows 7, and a big part of the reason why that is the case has to do with the fact that this operating system might just be the best of what Microsoft has to offer once all has been said and is now out of the way.
Some users would like to upgrade to Windows 10 but they feel like it might be too expensive, and this has resulted in a scam that can cause some pretty serious data loss if steps to mitigate it are not taken as quickly as possible. A new scam, as spotted by Cofense, offers Windows 7 users to upgrade to Windows 10 apparently free of charge. The only problem is that this is not a real offer, and if you try to take advantage of it the only thing that would probably happen would be that you would end up having your password stolen and you would subsequently be locked out of your important accounts.
This is partly spurred on by security updates and support for Windows 7 being discontinued earlier this year. Scammers are using this information to try and get users to make a hasty decision that would end up becoming quite a serious mistake if you think about it. The good news is that you don’t have to rely on scams like this. If the copy of Windows 7 that you are using is genuine, this means that you could very well get Windows 10 for free even though this offer has ended quite a long time ago, which indicates that Microsoft is still willing to upgrade Windows 7 users especially now that support has been discontinued.
