It’s a good time to be an app developer right now, and a big part of the reason why that is the case has to do with the fact that apps are being used more than ever and their earnings are starting to shoot through the roof as well which is the sort of thing that everyone in the industry is going to end up being excited about. Indeed, if you were to look at total app usage in Q3 of 2020 and compare it to the same quarter last year, this means that there has been a 25% total increase which indicates that people are using apps far more than they were at this same point in time last year.
The coronavirus pandemic has contributed to this quite a bit, so it will be interesting to see if things stay this successful as time goes by. With all of that having been said and out of the way, it is important to note that total usage crossed 180 million hours a month this quarter, and these are numbers that are so high that it seems pretty unlikely that they would decrease all that dramatically especially due to the reason that most users are going to get used to using their phones this much.
This also makes consumer protection in terms of data privacy all the more important. Most users don’t know how much data an app is taking from them nor do they usually know what this data most often ends up getting used for all in all. People need to start taking the protection of their data a lot more seriously, otherwise the vastly increased usage of such apps could lead to massive amounts of data being used and by that point it will be too late for consumers to do anything about it.
