Even if you are not the sort of person that tends to enjoy using TikTok on a regular basis, the fact of the matter is that you can’t deny that the China-based app has greatly shaken up the industry to the point where most tech companies have had to change their approaches and adapt otherwise they might have fallen behind TikTok and its rapid rise to the very top of the social media industry all in all.
Instagram Reels are one example of how tech companies are starting to pay attention to the various ways in which TikTok runs its operations and gives users features and services that make them want to keep coming back to the social media platform again and again. Reels is basically the same as TikTok, but Facebook is trying to help its subsidiary surpass TikTok by adding even more features into the framework of the app that might just help it surpass TikTok.
One thing that Facebook is doing in order to make Instagram more appealing is incorporating shopping into the new Reels feature. Ecommerce is something that Facebook has been looking into for quite some time now, and incorporating online shopping into Reels might just be the very thing that Facebook has needed in order to overtake its competitor.
A big part of the reason why that is the case has to do with the fact that a lot of users will be scrolling through short videos and they might just end up getting enticed by some kind of an ad that they would see where they can buy something immediately.
IGTV is also going to feature a lot more online shopping functionality. This feature was created to compete with YouTube, and while it might not have succeeded as much as Facebook was initially hoping the fact remains that people do use it on occasion and the longer form videos could facilitate a different kind of online shopping push that might just end up targeting a different niche. All in all, Facebook and Instagram seem to be pulling out all the stops to try and overtake their competitor TikTok.
