Facebook-owned WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps across the globe, and the company has been adding several new features to improve the service. Today the messaging app has being to roll out the dark mode theme for the desktop and web version.
Previously, the company rolled out the dark mode theme for the smartphone version of the WhatsApp messaging app back in March of this year. The dark mode theme for the app offers a fresh look at a familiar experience. The company has designed this theme to reduce eye strain in low light.
Last week, the company announced in a blog post that dark mode for the web version of WhatsApp will soon be launched. Now, the company has officially launched this feature. The initial stages of the rollout are in progress and soon dark mode for the web version of WhatsApp will be available to all users. The company announced the launch of dark mode alongside a host of other new features on July 1st of this year.
If you've received the desktop dark mode update, here's how to enable it:
First go to web.whatsapp.com and sign in it your account.
Find and click the 3-dots menu button in the left side chat box.
Now go to Setting and then select Theme and choose the dark option. Voila!
We began to get the first hints of a dark mode in the Android version of the WhatsApp messaging app last year. However, the dark mode theme for the Android version of the app was not available to all users until only a few months ago.
We hope that the company will not take quite that long to roll out the dark mode for desktop and web version of WhatsApp for all users. The dark mode theme for the web version of the WhatsApp messaging app will be available to all users within the upcoming few weeks. So, if you have not yet received the update, you will get it soon.
After the dark mode theme for web and desktop versions of the WhatsApp messaging app is available to all users, only the web version of the Instagram app and Facebook’s smartphone app will be the surfaces across Facebook’s family of applications where the dark mode is not yet available. Currently, the company is testing out dark mode for Instagram’s web app as well as Facebook’s smartphone application.
Last month, Facebook confirmed that the company is testing out the dark mode theme for Facebook’s smartphone app with a small percentage of users across the globe. Currently, dark mode is available on the Messenger app, in Facebook Lite, on WhatsApp, and the Instagram app.
