Remember when WHO (World Health Organization) stated that gaming for long hours is a disorder. Apparently, now WHO is the one encouraging you to keep yourself busy at home by playing video games rather than stepping outside. This is all because of the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
According to AFP, popular video gaming platforms including YouTube Gaming, Snap Games and Twitch have launched a movement “#PlayApartTogether”. As the title suggests, this movement encourages people to connect with each other while maintaining social distance, via digital games.
The CEO of Activision-Blizzard, Bobby Kotick claimed that establishing a connection between people was never a difficult task. He continued by saying that in such circumstances, gaming is the best method to allow people to stay in touch interactively while staying apart physically. In the end, he said that it is an honor for Activision to be a part of this campaign.
WHO and game makers that are a part of this movement surely deserve appreciation. It will make it easier for people to remain busy while staying indoors and adhering to the lockdown rules in their respective countries, states, and cities. Maintaining social distance is the only viable solution to deal with this pandemic until the formulation of an effective vaccine.
Riot Games, Unity, Kabam, Big Fish Games, Pocket Gems, Dirtybit, Amazon Appstore, Jam City, SciPlay, Playtika, Maysalward, Zynga, Glu Mobile, Wooga, and Snap Games are also among those gaming companies that have endorsed the movement in question so far with WHO.
Ray Chambers, WHO Ambassador for global strategies, stressed on the graveness of the current situation. He said that WHO fully supports the #PlayApartTogether. He also remains hopeful that this movement will assist people with practicing the lockdown guidelines with ease, which will, in turn, save them from becoming a target of the coronavirus.
